We all have different routines as we prepare to hit our shot. But how important really is it to take a practice swing? We asked PGA Professional Katie Dawkins.

Some of us do a number of practice swings while for others a mere waggle of the club will suffice. But how important is it to take a practice swing? We asked PGA Professional Katie Dawkins.

For some golfers a practice swing is a flick of the wrists, a swing well above the ground, or a rehearsal of the all-important backswing position they’ve been grooving on the range. So they shouldn’t be surprised when they lack a full follow through or top the ball. A practice swing is a rehearsal of the best possible golf shot. If you don’t do one at all you leave yourself exposed to inconsistency.

Brush the grass and pose at the end of your swing. If your non-golfing girlfriends ask, “What should a golf swing look like?” you wouldn’t demonstrate a flick of the wrist and no follow through. You’d give them the full Monty, so do this when you’re playing.

Get consistent in your pre-shot routine and your golf will follow suit. For more tips visit my website www.katiedawkinsgolf.co.uk
