Discover essential short game golf tips in Episode 6 of our Up and Down Series. Improve your putting set up with this simple putting drill
Welcome to Episode Six of The Up and Down Series, where we go back to basics and look at how to make sure that you are set up in the right position when it comes to putting. PGA Advanced Professional Alice Davis from Parkstone Golf Club, gives you a simple drill you can practice to make sure your eyes are over the ball at address.
Putting set up
Let's keep it simple. Today, in this episode of The Up And Down Series, we are going to be checking your putting set up and whether your eyes are over the ball in a dress.
A really common thing that I see is people stand too far away from the ball when they are setting up to their putts. What this can cause is for their eyes to not be over the golf ball and for the toe of the putter to be off the ground. This will mean that you can end up catching the floor as you swing through, and it causes the putter face to twist.
What we want to try and do is make sure the putter head is flat on the ground and that our eyes are nicely over the top of the golf ball.
A really easy way you can check this if you are on your own, is by grabbing a second golf ball, setting up to your putt, and then dropping it from the bridge of your nose, and it should fall on the golf ball on the ground.
Next time you're practicing your putting, grab a couple of golf balls and give it a try!

Here is a visual of what happens when you stand too far away from the golf ball when you are putting:

Here is how you can practice to see whether your eyes are over the ball at address - set up to the putt and hold a ball at the bridge of your nose. Drop the ball and if it hits the ball on the ground then you know you are standing in the right position - practice a few times to make sure that you can consistently take the correct stance when putting.

Thank you to Parkstone Golf Club for the use of their practice areas to film The Up And Down Series.
