Mauritius Return Visit Review With Chaka Travel

Belfast based Chaka Travel are the World’s leading Mauritius Golf Holiday Specialists. Some local clients tell Women & Golf about their return visit to Constance Belle Mare Plage...

As a returning guest to Constance Belle Mare Plage I continue to be in awe each time we go back. It seems as if we have simply come home.

From the welcoming ice cold face towel when you exit your private taxi to the friendly and enthusiastic Belle Mare Plage reception committee, nothing has changed since our first visit 5 years ago.

After a brief check of our passports, the highly efficient Shivani, clarified if we had any special needs and food allergies, reminding us of the facilities available within the complex and the benefits of our All-Inclusive Package.

After a cold refreshing drink, we were escorted to our Junior Suite Room where our luggage was waiting for us. The view from the balcony to the blue waters of the Indian Ocean was breath-taking.

Our holiday is based around golf, with Alison and I both keen to play most days. The two courses were in superb order with maintenance of both high on management agenda given the number of green staff on view.

At the Links Course we have noticed changes with the removal of a number of trees and vegetation areas creating better vision throughout. Water hazards are cleverly positioned throughout the back nine. The undulating and fast greens make this course a real challenge being suitable for players of all standards. There was nothing better after eighteen holes but to retire to Le Swing for liquid refreshment accompanied by a light lunch.

The Legends Course (which is used for the final event on the Staysure European Tour) is very challenging with golfers faced with numerous water hazards. The spectacular 17th is a short par 3 of around 140 yards over water to a raised island green. Always happy to walk away with a three.

It is worth mentioning that the staff at both courses sought to ensure everyone enjoyed their experience. After each game we were asked where we were playing next and our clubs were transported to that course. There was no need to take them back to our room until unfortunately it was time to pack to head home.

We sampled food in all restaurants throughout the resort with the lamb saddle in the Blue Penny simply being exquisite. In the cool surroundings of the Wine Cellar its ambience gave the guests a quiet and tranquil yet intimate location to saviour food of the highest quality supplemented by the choice of hundreds of wines from around the world.

The variety of food in La Spiaggia gives clientele numerous options with full explanations of your choice provided by your server. Whether it was baked fish, lobster, or smoke infused rack of lamb or many of the other choices, waiting staff confidently carved your food at your table side.

The Deer Hunter remains a favourite choice and like every restaurant the efficient and polite service was always on display with the quality of cuisine matching the service standards. I experienced a local curry cookery class with Chef Jeet with the fruits of labour being served for our lunch!

The main resort restaurant – Le Citronelle catered for everyone’s needs from buffet breakfast to wide ranging international fish, curry, pasta and meat selections, not to mention the various accompaniments. The mini desserts were a real treat.

Whilst we did not take the opportunity to avail of the water sports there were plenty of guests who used the glass bottom boat trips, water skiing, pedalos, snorkelling and sampled the local diving centre. We did use the beach and took advantage of the beach service.

With the introduction of Wellness Wednesday, a quiet pool, supplemented by a well-maintained gym and spa facility, tennis courts and bicycles, the fitness of guests is high on the agenda.

The Bar was a hive of activity each evening with live entertainment including a traditional Mauritian dance on the Thursday. Cocktails were on tap with the bar staff eager to test your taste buds with their creations.

The management team led by Gert and ably supported by Bertrand, Executive Chef Alexis & Guito, were highly visible throughout the complex. They are always communicating with guests, endeavouring to ensure everyone enjoyed this little piece of paradise.

Would we return to Belle Mare Plage soon? I don’t think that is ever in doubt!

Chaka Travel arranged for us to fly from Dublin to Dubai and in to Mauritius in the middle of September with Emirates Airlines. On arrival in Mauritius, Chaka Travel had arranged for a local tour company to transport us to the luxurious Belle Mare Plage.” -John Hiles
