When you think of the perfect golf getaway, what comes to mind? For me, it’s a combination of beautiful courses, world-class accommodation, delicious food, and unforgettable experiences. And that’s exactly what I found during my recent 4-night stay at Heritage Resorts in Mauritius. From luxurious hotels to stunning golf courses and even a thrilling safari, this trip checked all the boxes for a golfer’s dream holiday.

Day 1: Arriving in paradise

After a 12-hour flight from London, I arrived in Mauritius, feeling a bit jetlagged but absolutely thrilled. My destination: the exquisite Heritage Resorts, nestled on the southwestern coast of the island. The resort was the perfect blend of luxury and natural beauty, with the warm Indian Ocean breeze greeting me as I stepped off the plane.

I spent my first night at Heritage Le Telfair, a 5-star gem with everything you could ask for in terms of comfort and style. After settling in, I hopped into a buggy for a scenic ride to Le Château de Bel Ombre, a gorgeous colonial-era mansion perched on the resort grounds. It was the perfect setting for a welcome dinner – stunning views, impeccable service, and a delicious meal that set the tone for the rest of my stay.

Day 2: A challenging round at La Réserve Golf Links

Mauritius is renowned for its lush landscapes and dramatic coastlines, and La Réserve Golf Links at Heritage Golf Club is the perfect representation of the island’s natural beauty. On my second day, I played a challenging 18-hole round on this new course, and it truly lived up to the hype. The course was a tough test of my game, with water features, strategic bunkers, and undulating greens that kept me on my toes throughout.

Afterwards, I headed to the clubhouse for a delightful lunch with sweeping views of the course and the ocean beyond. The culinary offerings at Heritage Resorts were top-notch, whether you were grabbing a quick bite or indulging in a full-course meal. Later that evening, I enjoyed dinner at Ginga, an Asian fusion restaurant on the resort. The food was absolutely incredible, with a menu that perfectly blended fresh local ingredients with Asian-inspired flavours.

Day 3: Exploring Heritage Le Telfair, Awali, and a round at Le Château Golf Course

The next day was a perfect blend of relaxation and golf. I started with a show round of Heritage Le Telfair and its sister property, Heritage Awali. Both are equally luxurious but have their own distinct charm. Le Telfair offers an elegant, colonial-style ambiance, while Awali has a more vibrant, African-inspired design. Between the two, there’s an accommodation option for every type of traveller, whether you’re seeking tranquil elegance or a lively, family-friendly vibe.

In the afternoon, I tackled Le Château Golf Course at Heritage Golf Club for 18 more holes. This course was simply breathtaking – set in a lush, tropical environment with incredible views of the surrounding nature. It’s challenging yet fair, offering something for golfers of all skill levels.

The day wrapped up with a delectable three-course dinner at the clubhouse, where I enjoyed fresh local seafood and some of the finest Mauritian dishes I’ve ever tasted. Every meal felt like a celebration, and it made each day of my trip feel special.

Day 4: A thrilling safari adventure

As much as I love golf, I also wanted to experience the natural beauty of Mauritius beyond the course. So, I embarked on an incredible safari experience through the Heritage Nature Reserve. This vast reserve is home to diverse wildlife and lush landscapes, and the guided safari gave me a glimpse into the island’s rich flora and fauna. It was the perfect contrast to the golfing I’d been doing, offering a deeper connection to the island’s natural environment.

That evening, I dined at La Boma, a unique and immersive experience where Mauritian culture comes to life. The night featured live music, traditional dancing, and a feast that felt like a true celebration of the island’s heritage. It was one of the most memorable meals of the trip, blending local flavors with a festive atmosphere that made it feel like a night to remember.

Day 5: A final round and farewell

On my last day, I couldn’t resist one more round at Le Château Golf Course. By this point, I was thoroughly enchanted by the course and the stunning views, so I soaked up every last minute of the experience before heading back to the airport. The entire trip had been a golfer’s paradise, and I felt incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to explore both the courses and the natural beauty of Mauritius.
