A good drive gives you confidence, especially off the 1st tee, and it sets you up to play the rest of the hole well. Here are some tips on how to generate more distance and accuracy to ensure you drive to the best of your ability.

To gain distance off the tee it’s important to set up correctly in order to maximise the utilisation of your core muscles which provide power behind each shot. With drivers and fairway woods, due to the length of the shaft, the ball should be placed forward in your stance - opposite the inside of your front foot with your hands positioned opposite the inside of your front leg.

A common fault is to lean forward to have a clearer view of the ball, bringing your sternum positioned opposite or even in front of the ball. This fault will not allow your body to coil correctly during the swing and will effect the power behind each shot.

CHECKPOINT:

Once in position hang a golf club over your sternum and make sure it hangs down in the centre of your stance.
