A review of our Women & Golf event on 23 May at Tandridge Golf Club, Surrey
Women & Golf visited Tandridge Golf Club in the lovely Surrey countryside for our second golf day of 2023. Recently added to the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World - its ranks 18th in Surrey and 74th in GB & Ireland - it is a treat of a course.
Golf at Tandridge
Celebrated golf architect Harry Colt created the delightful course at Tandridge in 1924. There are spectacular views of the Surrey North Downs and the High Weald, with the front nine running along relatively gentle land and the back nine sited in more rolling and dramatic terrain.
Colt Corner
Renowned architect Tim Lobb has described the 12th, 13th & 14th at Tandridge as ‘one of Harry Colt’s finest 3-hole sequences’.
Many members describe it as Surrey’s own Amen Corner. The ‘Colt Corner Challenge’ is to get around the corner in 10 or fewer.
Ladies get an extra shot on the 13th, so 11 was the target.
Congratulations to Paula Offer & Louise Ezzard who completed the three holes in 14 shots.
First Tee Photocall
It was great to welcome back some familiar faces and say hello to players who were attending their first Women & Golf event. It really was a geographically diverse playing field - teams from 16 clubs and 8 counties competed including Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Kent, Middlesex, Suffolk & Surrey.
A reviving stop at the 12th
Thanks to Slingsby, aka Slingsby Social, the players took a well-earned break at the 9th tee to sample some gin & tonic, gin spritz, or non-alcoholic refreshments.
Just a little something to give them a pep before taking on the dramatic second nine holes including Tandridge's very own Amen Corner.
After Golf
The players enjoyed a beautifully presented late lunch (with a huge selection of enticing desserts) in the dining room overlooking the putting green.
After the round, the players commented what a tough challenge the course was but very enjoyable with magnificent views and the course in amazing condition. The putting greens were fast!

The prizes were kindly provided by our sponsors Yonex, Duca del Cosma, Motocaddy, Slingsby Gin and Wilson.

There were some great scores considering the difficulty of the course and the lightning-fast greens.
Almost all of the field had not played there before and everyone said "they needed to come and play it again!".
Only one player, the winner, bettered their handicap which shows what a challenge it was.

Beat Lester
We like to throw the odd few challenges into a Women & Golf golf day and Tandridge was no exception. Ed Bell, Managing Director of Women & Golf partner, Lester Brunt Wealth Management, faced our competitors on the "treacherous" par 3 4th for a Beat Lester Challenge.
Only five ladies made it onto the green and each received a sleeve of Titleist balls. On those holes where Ed missed the green he put those ladies in a hat and Susan King was the lucky person who won a bottle of English sparkling wine.
Goody Bags
An integral part of any golf day, each player took away a goody bag containing a W&G double ball marker & nail file.
Thanks to OCEANTEE (bamboo tees), Eucerin (sunscreen - most definitely needed) & Lester Brunt (pen - always useful) for their gifts. Gimmeballs also gave us 10% discount on their personalised golf balls. Great present idea for you and your golf friends.

Just wanted to thank you for a wonderful day yesterday! The course was amazing as was the food and hospitality of the clubhouse. Ed was very entertaining on the difficult par 3 and the halfway G&T was delicious! It was an inspired choice of venue.
