Bunker Mentality embraces made-to-order fashion, sustainable materials and inclusive sizing, making stylish, eco-conscious golf wear a reality.
In celebration of Earth Day, Women & Golf sat down with Tamasine Green, Managing Director of Bunker Mentality, to talk sustainability, style and the future of golf wear.
We chatted about the brand’s bold move to a made-to-order model, how it’s reducing waste in the golf clothing industry, and what golfers can expect next from this forward-thinking label.
Bunker Mentality has made a significant shift to a made-to-order model. What inspired this change, and how has it transformed the business?
My partner and I have always worked in fashion and retail, and have always been really concerned by how much waste is created in the industry. About 20% of the clothes produced globally each year are never sold, which is shocking. That compelled us to find a way to do things differently.
Our made-to-order model means we only produce items that people actually want to wear. As we only make the products that are ordered, we have cut waste massively and made our processes more efficient. Plus, it gives our customers something more personal — high-quality items made just for them that they want to wear over and over.
With sustainability at the forefront of fashion, how has your manufacturing process evolved to reduce your carbon footprint?
We've reduced the number of steps in our supply chain from 25 to seven, which has significantly reduced our carbon footprint. When your order is placed, it is digitally transmitted to our factory and each item individually produced in our single piece manufacturing process. One skilled sewing machinist makes your whole garment and then it is sent directly to you, all in around 10 days. Each piece in our collection is crafted just for you. No waste, no excess stock; we only make products that people want.
We’ve also introduced sustainable fabrics like organic cotton and recycled polyester, and to ensure that our clothing wears and washes brilliantly, we’ve partnered with Polygiene to treat our clothes with stay fresh technology. That means they stay fresher for longer, require less washing and have lower water and energy use. It's all about thoughtful choices that have a lasting impact.

Inclusivity in golf apparel is a growing conversation. Can you tell us more about your size range and why it was important for Bunker Mentality to offer more options?
Size inclusivity is a major issue in golf and and is particularly close to my heart. Especially so in women's golf, brands often offer a really limited size range. That sends a message that tells a lot of women: You don’t really belong here.
We want every golfer to feel like they belong on the course and in our clothes. Thanks to our on-demand model, we offer 24 sizes for men and eight for women, from XS to 4XL, without the usual issues of certain sizes selling out or being underrepresented. It’s made a huge difference, and we’ve had such positive feedback.
Golf is for everyone, and we believe golf clothes should be too.
You started Bunker Mentality over 25 years ago. What are the biggest changes you’ve seen in the industry, and how has Bunker Mentality evolved in that time?
When we started Bunker Mentality in 2004, golf clothes were very traditional – and let’s be honest, quite bland. We wanted to change that, and bring colour, personality, and energy to the game. Over the years, we’ve stayed true to that mission, but we’ve also evolved with the times.
Sustainability and inclusivity have become essential, and we’re proud to be pushing the industry forward in those areas now. Golf fashion should feel fresh, modern, and reflective of the people who play the game today.
What’s next for Bunker Mentality in terms of sustainability and innovation?
We’re always looking for new ways to improve. We're exploring more low-impact fabrics and further refining our packaging to be even more eco-friendly. We're also continuing to grow our Bunker Woman range, giving female golfers more exciting, sustainable options that feel good to wear on and off the course. Through our single piece process, we’ll be adding skorts, leggings and performance layering pieces through the season as well as lots of new drops of print and colour in our performance clothing, exciting fierce fashion for Golf Girls.
