I’m a lazy golfer! I want good shots to happen without practising and as we all know, it doesn’t work like that. I feel the same about new technology and so when presented with a system that I’m told will deliver data for distances hit, club averages, driving accuracy, greens in regulation, sand saves, putts and more, I immediately thought that I would find it too much of a faff to use, as it’s just something else to think about, when all I want to do is focus on my shots. I was wrong.
The system consists of 14 sensors, one for each club in your bag. These are easily attached to the butt end of your clubs and they communicate with a free app for iOS and Android devices. You have to keep your phone in the front pocket of your trousers, skort or shorts, in order for each shot to be recorded, therefore tight bottoms are a no go!
Unless you have an urge to do so, there’s no need to look at your device again until the end of the round, although the system does provide users with GPS.
I’m not a stats geek, but I have found it interesting to see how far I hit each shot with each club, whether I generally miss to the left or right of the fairway, how many putts etc. It is a device that can certainly help to aid improvement and the evidence is clear. In 2016, the average Arccos user who played more than 10 rounds reduced their handicap by 2.77 strokes.
It doesn’t end there as once I have completed five rounds I can access the recently launched Arccos Caddie, golf’s first artificial intelligence platform, that instantly digests unique data sets and delivers actionable advice to golfers.
