Could Callaway’s new Quantum Mini Spinner offer an easier-to-control option at the top end of the bag? W&G reviewer Pauline Hill put it to the test over five rounds.
The Callaway Quantum Mini Spinner immediately felt a little different to the fairway woods I am used to. I’ll admit there was some initial apprehension, but I was intrigued by the promise of more spin and keen to see whether it could give me the higher, more controlled flight I was looking for.
- Brand & model: Callaway Quantum Mini Spinner
- Club type: Fairway wood
- Lofts: 7W 21° / 9W 24° / 11W 27°
- Key technology: Deep Face and Step Sole design, with a shorter playing length designed to promote control; carbon sole construction on 7W and 9W helps position mass higher to increase spin.
- Tester’s current club: Ping GLE3 5 Wood
- Pauline tested the 21° 7-wood in a men’s regular flex – making it particularly interesting to see how the Mini Spinner would perform for a female golfer.
How did it perform?
The shorter shaft was one of the biggest positives for me. It made the Mini Spinner feel easier to control and helped me find the centre of the face more consistently. A good strike felt solid and responsive, while off-centre hits were easy to identify without producing any uncomfortable vibration through my hands.
I tested the club over five rounds on four different courses and found it particularly impressive from the fairway and light rough. It launched high, with a steep descent and noticeably more stopping power, while dispersion was tight and distances predictable. Even on mishits, I was generally able to retain useful ball speed and keep the ball reasonably close to my intended target.
There were some compromises. My existing club performed better from poorer lies and thick rough reduced the Mini Spinner’s effectiveness. Into the wind, I also had to control the swing to stop the ball climbing too much. But for longer approaches from a decent lie, I really enjoyed the combination of consistency, flight and control.

How does it look and feel?
The compact head sits neatly behind the ball and, despite my initial uncertainty, I found the deeper face reassuring at address. The styling is modern and clean, with a simple alignment aid, attractive sole and smart matching headcover.
