Women & Golf Member Fiona Hay took an overnight trip to stay and play at the Murrayshall - "golfer's paradise" in Perthshire.

Murrayshall Country Estate is a luxury, boutique hotel in Perthshire, Scotland.

Murrayshall is located 2 miles from Scone and 3 miles from Perth. It is an ideal base to visit most of central Scotland. Set in the evergreen heart of Perthshire, Murrayshall dates back over 400 years.

With 40 sophisticated rooms and suites, it is a hideaway that is full of natural tranquillity. It is set in 365 acres and there’s spectacular views over the rolling Perthshire countryside. There are extensive grounds to explore, 27-holes of parkland golf, a driving range and a huge range of activities that can be arranged in the grounds and across the surrounding area.

There are two restaurants and a relaxing bar in the hotel.

Perfect Accommodation

Much of the accommodation has recently been tastefully upgraded.

I stayed in the Lynedoch suites which would be fantastic for families and groups due to the spacious area. There is everything from sitting area, dining table, coffee machine, mini fridge and luxurious bathroom.

Food

There are two restaurants at Murrayshall.

Eolas offers modern Scottish cooking specialising in seasonal food from local producers. It was easy to see why it was awarded the “Best Boutique Hotel Restaurant” in the UK in 2022. The food was excellent, with friendly and efficient staff and fabulous views over the Perthshire hills. The full Scottish breakfast will set you up for the day's activities.

Cairns offers a more casual varied menu. In summer, there are plenty of outdoor tables to enjoy the countryside. There is something for everyone.

Golf

At Murrayshall, there are 2 courses - the Murrayshall and the Lynedoch - and a vast driving range and expert PGA tuition.

Murrayshall

An idyllic 18-hole championship parkland course (ranked no.34 in GB & Ireland by National Club Golfer) that meanders its way around our countryside estate through large pine trees, offering golfers the perfect combination of an enthralling layout, impeccable course conditions and stunning panoramic views.

Murrayshall is a great test of parkland golf. When I visited, the greens were the best parkland greens I have played on. There are variety of tees to suit all golfing abilities. There is a pro shop but there was a limited selection of ladies clothing. Less fit individuals may want to use a buggy or take their time and take in the scenery on the way round.

Lynedoch

A beautiful 10-hole parkland layout that is ideal for golfers seeking a quick game of golf or for juniors and those new to the game. Shorter, but equally as challenging as the Murrayshall Course, the layout features slightly narrower fairways, framed by tall Scots pine trees.

Other activities

Moutain bikes and e bikes are available to hire. There is an onsite spa.  There are a large number of activities that can be organised locally.

The verdict

Murrayshall would be an ideal base for a golf holiday with 27 holes of golf and driving range.

It is a very good parkland course.

It is also within driving distance of a number of other great courses such as Gleneagles, St. Andrews and Carnoustie, to name a few. There are also plenty of activities for non-golfers. The staff were all very friendly and professional.
