New owners, Darwin Escapes, are looking to attract female competitors to the revamped Trilby Tour

The Trilby Tour is back and for the first time, female amateurs will go head-to-head with their male counterparts.

Gone are the trilby hats and caddy boiler suits of old and in comes an event with a modern and more professional tour feel. In particular, the new Trilby Tour owners, Darwin Escapes, are looking to attract female amateurs to take part.

So what can you expect from the venue?

The three-month schedule begins on June 13 with the Trilby Tour Championship of Oxfordshire at The Springs Resort & Golf Club.

Offering a variety of terrain, The Springs presents all levels of golfers with a real challenge. The par 72 golf course was originally designed by former Ryder Cup captain Brian Huggett, and first opened in 1998. The course was purchased by Darwin Escapes in 2017 and the following year began a significant investment plan, starting with the golf course with leading course architect Tim Lobb. The Springs is now considered to be one of the best golf venues in the Oxfordshire area.

The schedule then heads north to Carus Green on June 27 for The Trilby Tour Championship of Cumbria.

Carus Green is located on the fringes of the Lake District. It has gained a reputation for being one of the finest golf courses in Cumbria and Northern England. At more than 6,100 yards (par 70) from the white tees, Carus Green presents a stiff but fair test whilst offering mostly flat, easy walking on the river plains.

Next up comes the Trilby Tour Championship of Yorkshire at Kilnwick Percy on July 4.

Set in 120 acres of Yorkshire Wolds countryside, you’ll struggle to find a more peaceful setting for a day out on the course. The 6193-yard par 70 parkland course offers something for every golfer. The wide and forgiving fairways give you plenty of confidence off the tee, but it’s a course you will still need to think your way around due to the very cleverly placed hazards.

The final venue is the Championship of Ayrshire at Dundonald Links on August 15.

Located at the very heart of Ayrshire’s golf coast lies a modern links golf masterpiece. Designed by Kyle Phillips, Dundonald Links has been home to the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open in 2015, 2016, and 2017 and The Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open in 2017. It is set to be the host of the 2022 Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open.

The top 15 players from each event return to Dundonald Links to compete in The Grand Final on September 19.

Women competing alongside the men

Sky Sports Golf presenter, Sarah Stirk, commented:

“I'm thrilled to be part of the all-new Trilby Tour for 2022. The game is in really good shape right now.

“Not only is it now fully refreshed, with some great new partners, it also has women playing head-to-head with the men for the coveted title of Trilby Tour Champion. I can't wait to be part of the show.”

Ashley Pheasant, Head of Golf for Darwin Escapes, commented:

"When we set out on this journey, we wanted to make the Trilby Tour the best amateur golf tour in the UK and having women playing in the event alongside the men was one of the first things we wanted to change.

“The women's game is growing at an unprecedented rate, and we want to do everything we can to support that. Seeing women and men go head-to-head in the final at Dundonald Links, host venue of the 2022 Trust Golf Women's Scottish Open, is going to be incredible... and we may well see a woman claim the title of Trilby Tour Champion 2022!"
