Women’s golf in Scotland is set for a major boost. Scottish Golf has unveiled a new round of funding to encourage women and girls to take up the game, aiming for a step change in club participation.
A New Drive to Welcome Women and Girls
Twelve golf clubs and two local councils will each receive up to £5,000 as part of Scottish Golf’s Women and Girls Coordinator Fund. This money supports the hiring of dedicated coordinators tasked with making clubs more inviting and accessible for women and girls.
More Than Just Membership Numbers
Currently, only 12.4% of golf club members in Scotland are women. The new plan aims to increase that figure to 38,000 female members by 2035—a rise of 50%. Coordinators will work to make clubs friendlier spaces, highlight female leaders, and offer easier pathways into coaching and competitions.
Equity and Access at the Centre

Jennifer Wilson of Scottish Golf highlighted the fund’s role in helping clubs break through resource barriers and put values of equity and inclusion into action. She said, “[The fund] can help clubs overcome resource barriers and adopt the values outlined in the strategy.”
The Women and Girls Coordinator Fund is just one part of a wider strategy set to run from 2025 to 2035. Other efforts include new roles and support teams, all focused on making sure women and girls have equal opportunities to take part and succeed.
