Women & Golf columnist and BBC presenter was surprised when she received an anonymous letter a few months back suggesting a women's place wasn't on the golf course.

Guess what? She's now received another, presumably from the same gentleman, reasserting his chauvinistic views. Written on a newspaper cutting, next to a piece reporting on the decision by the Muirfield membership not to accept Women members, the letter read...

Dear Naga

Absolutely the right decision by the members, although a great lose to the Open! Don't forget you can play there on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
Best Wishes.

Your Golfing Friend

As you can imagine, Naga didn't concur. In her regular column in the July/August edition of the magazine (on sale 17 June) she hits back, although not without giving a mention to those Muirfield members (who are in fact the majority) who had voted in favour of ending the clubs men-only policy.

My old friend has been in touch again, or should I say old fiend? Funnily enough I was at a golf charity day a short while ago and was sitting next to some pleasant chaps who eventually admitted to being members of Muirfield Golf Club. As my eyebrows raised and I got ready to rant, they quickly said that they had voted in favour of female membership. They also said that they were embarrassed at how the latest vote had turned out “ Rightly so”, I said.

The above is an extract from Naga's column in the July/August 2016 issue of Women & Golf magazine, on sale June 17.  Never miss an issue, click here to subscribe and enjoy W&G delivered to your door.
