Women & Golf has offered advice on ways to attract Lady Captains, and we also think that the following poem from Doreen Middleton will bring a smile to your face.

Poem Lady Captain

Reader Doreen Middleton from Milford Golf Club in Surrey wrote the poem below. It was presented to the future Lady Captain as her place mat on Captain’s Day.

THE CHOSEN ONE

Who would be Captain? I’m sure I don’t know!

It’s an honour we’re told, your stature will grow

Trying to please each and everyone,

Jobs to do and all must be done!

Blamed for the greens and the state of the course,

Even the food is, somehow, your fault!

Organisation is the key

Delegation becomes your priority!

The big day arrives with alarming speed

You hope help is on hand in your hour of need!

It all comes together and works like a dream,

Prizes presented and now you can breathe!

You rose to the challenge and got it licked

Now you know why YOU were picked!
