The Great Britain & Ireland team are putting the final preparations in place for the Curtis Cup, which gets underway tomorrow morning at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club.

The three-day match against the Curtis Cup holders, the United States, begins with three morning foursomes before the players take to the course again for three afternoon four-ball matches.

The GB&I squad of eight will be led by Aberdeen Solicitor Elaine Farquharson-Black who has praised the welcoming reception they’ve received at the club, which is situated near Dublin.

"It's a great course with great facilities - and officials and members too! Everyone has been so welcoming," said Elaine.

The GB&I team have been in Ireland since last week, where they prepared for the transatlantic match at Castle Golf Club before heading to the championship venue, which is renown for being one of the most scenic golf courses in the country.

The team attended the traditional pre-match dinner last night, whilst they were also given the opportunity to mix with the the opposing team with a trip to Dublin on Monday.

The beautiful wooded, parkland course has an American feel to it which may make the visiting team feel more at home but GB&I are likely to be boasted by huge home crowds.

The previous Curtis Cup home record attendance was 12,000 at Nairn Golf Club four years ago but with busloads of supporters from golf clubs across Ireland reportedly traveling to the event and with the venue close to a major city, it’s a fairly safe bet that the record is likely to be beaten. They may have to bring their brollies however with rain forecast for all three days!

Alongside the fans are an army of volunteers whose role is to ensure the event runs smoothly.

The crowd will have three Irish girls to support in the form of Leona Maguire (Slieve Russell and Duke University), Olivia Mehaffey (Royal Co Down Ladies) and Maria Dunne (Skerries), whilst the team will be complete by five English players.

Those who attend will likely to bear witness to some spectacular golf with former world number one, Leona Maguire in the field, whilst America’s Hannah O’Sullivan the player who usurped her and now occupies the top spot heading the opposing team.
