British actress and TV personality Denise van Outen has partnered Las Colinas Golf & Country Club and aims to fulfil her 2016 resolution to reduce her 36 handicap as soon as possible.

The 41-year-old, who marked her 40th birthday by learning to play golf, will be hard pushed to find a better learning environment, with high-speed video analysis, natural grass hitting areas, putting green and short game area.

Golf was not a natural choice for Denise as like many women, her initial perception was that golf was a fuddy-duddy sport, however, two good friends were already enjoying girlie golf weekends away and Denise decided she wanted a piece of the action.

After taking her first lesson at The Grove in Hertfordshire, she was hooked.

“I absolutely loved it and booked a series of lessons that most people would take over a couple of months, but I took mine in one week, sometimes two a day,” she says laughing.

Golf also came into Denise’s life at the right time having recently separated from her actor husband Lee Mead. “My daughter Betsy would spend Saturdays with her dad so suddenly I had time to myself - there’s only so much online shopping you can do!”

Like mother, like daughter, six-year- old Betsy already has a Lynx junior set and will be joining Denise on regular visits to Las Colinas. Apparently Betsy talks about golf a lot and is more likely to follow her mother’s footsteps onto the fairways than onto the stage, a prospect that delights Denise. Mother and daughter might well have a partnership off the course too as whilst Denise enthuses over the latest golf gear, she’d ultimately like to design her own golf collection that combines high street fashion, so watch this space.

When talking to the bubbly entertainer, it’s clear her enthusiasm is genuine, she’s not just a fair weather player, she’ll seek out a golf course wherever she’s filming and golf is a passion that she shares with boyfriend Eddie Boxall.

“My best days are golf days, whether with Eddie or my friends as we have such a laugh,” she says. Golf might be fun, but there’s also an air of frustration and determination in Denise’s voice as she explains, “I don’t want to be that person that keeps turning up at celebrity events and playing off 36 because people don’t take me seriously, I really want to improve.”

It’s at Las Colinas that Denise is pinning her hopes for improvement, while ogling the stunning properties, as it’s her dream to have a home on a golf course.

“It’s so peaceful here, people might think that I like ‘madness’, but I love ‘quiet’, and I’ll be able to focus on my golf without any distractions.”

In between writing a film and appearing in another West End show, it’s a safe bet that Denise won’t be playing off 36 by the end of 2016!
