Great Britain & Ireland will head to this weekend’s Curtis Cup at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club, near Dublin, confident they’ve got what it takes to defeat a strong American squad.

Amongst those who will tee it up on Friday will be eighteen-year-old Alice Hewson from Berkhamsted Golf Club, who is one of five rookies to make the team.

A first year student at Clemson University in South Carolina, Hewson may be the second youngest player on the side but she will bring plenty of confidence coming off the back of a strong college season in which she earned two victories and was named the ACC Freshman of the Year.

A seasoned England international, Hewson is known for her exceptional distance and has already earned a GB&I cap at last year’s Vagliano Trophy.

A strong swimmer in her youth Hewson has been a regular winner since capturing the English U13 girls’ title and her successes have included the Scottish U16 stroke play, the U18 prize at the St Rule Trophy and the girls’ title at the Telegraph Junior Championship. She has helped England beat Spain in the biennial international, to win the girls’ and women’s Home Internationals and the team event at the European Young Masters.

The Curtis Cup takes places at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club from 10-12 June.
