Melissa Reid had to overcome more obstacles than most on her way to the Solheim Cup. Lewine Mair discusses Reid's impressive comeback and Solheim appearance.
It has been a roller coaster few years for Melissa Reid, but the English player now has her life and golf game back on track. With an impressive performance at the recent Solheim Cup, she looks set to continue fufill her true potential well into 2016.
Below is an extract from the Nov/Dec edition of Women & Golf Magazine.

''On the day following the Solheim cup Melissa Reid, appeared with Laura Davies at a business woman's forum- SSE invitational- at Stoke Park, where they did a brief Q&A with Claire McDonald from BBC 5-live. Much was made of the Pettersen incident, with Reid helping Pettersen's cause as far as she decently could by explaining that the Norwegian was a particularly competitive individual. ''She'll draw blood in a practice match,'' she said.
But it was not too long before the English woman was doing her level best to change the subject. ''I just hope "she said, ''that in time people come to remember the match the fine play from both teams.''
The sad truth is that that might never happen. In Reid's case it is doubly bad luck in that it seems unlikely that anyone will ever again do as she did. Having been on the verge of giving up the game only nine months earlier she not only played her way into the side, but won 3 1/2 points out of four.

Melissa was THE player in Europe - she had partnered Davies to a famous victory over Michelle Wie and Brittany Lang in the Solheim Cup in Ireland - when her life fell apart following her mother’s demise.
Her father, Brian, who had been driving the car on that fateful day, had been taken to a different hospital from his wife and his injuries were still being assessed when Melissa came to him with the terrible news.
