Grammy award-winning DJ and record producer Mark Ronson and the Englishman’s chart-topping compatriot Labrinth have wowed a very different kind of gallery at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club in an impressive debut for the club’s innovative new Green Grooves Abu Dhabi concert series.

Normally the scene of polite applause in appreciation of the world’s best golfers during the European Tour’s annual Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship in January, Abu Dhabi Golf Club last night cranked up the volume with the Sony Music stars animating the crowd of local and international party-goers.

After popular mood-setting sets by local acts DJ Melohman, DJ Koast and Saif & Sound under the shadow of Abu Dhabi Golf Club’s famed Falcon clubhouse, the crowd embraced Labrinth, one of the UK’s brightest, multifaceted talents whose first No.1 single came in November 2012 with “Beneath your Beautiful” featuring Emeli Sandé.

It was then the turn of Ronson who last year won a Brit Award for his first UK and U.S. chart-topping single “Uptown Funk” (featuring vocals from Bruno Mars) and has produced on multi-platform, Grammy Award-winning albums for artists such as Amy Winehouse and Adele.

Abu Dhabi Golf Club General Manager Paul Booth, leader of the team that created the Green Grooves Abu Dhabi concept, paid tribute to all five acts who ensured a blockbusting start to the all-new concert series.

“It was a fantastic evening and you could see by the reaction of the crowd that all five artists hit the spot…we’re thrilled everyone had such a memorable time,” Mr Booth said.

“Golf clubs are traditionally very conservative institutions but the performance by Mark Ronson and Labrinth shows that we, as a Troon Golf-managed club and as a sport, are determined to showcase all that our family-friendly club has to offer and embrace concepts not readily associated with the Royal and Ancient game.”

Ronson and Labrinth headlined what Abu Dhabi Golf Club intends becoming an on-going roll-call of top international acts at the club with further Green Grooves Abu Dhabi concerts earmarked for 2016.

“I think tonight has proven the Green Grooves concept is a winner. We’re working hard behind the scenes to bring more world renowned artists to Abu Dhabi Golf Club covering a wide genre and look forward to unveiling our next stars soon,” Mr Booth said.
