Catriona Matthew Ends Year With OBE

Victorious Solheim Cup captain Catriona Matthew has been appointed to the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the New Year Honours List.

The 50-year-old has been recognised for services to golf, 10 years after becoming an MBE, following her major victory in the Women’s British Open.

She said: “It’s a great honour to be awarded the OBE. It is great to keep ladies’ golf in the spotlight and this honour is not just for me but the whole team and it’s great to see us recognised in such a special way. My two daughters Katie and Sophie are super excited to go to Buckingham Palace, as when I got the MBE in 2010, they were too young to make the trip.

“This honour caps off what’s been an outstanding year for me. It was literally a dream come true, to captain a winning European Solheim Cup team in front of amazing home crowds at Gleneagles in September.”
