2015 All-Ireland finalists Rockmount got off to a hot start with their top pairing of Jo Donaldson and Barbara Fleet winning 6&5. Donaldson and Fleet were on fire after they secured a 4&3 win in the semi-final yesterday also. Newlands dominated the second match as they were one up through six, four up through 11 and three up through 15, closing out the match on the 16th green, with a 3&2 victory.
Rockmount added another killer blow after a 4&3 win from the fourth pairing of Jan Lindsay and Frances Lawther. Newlands were one up and two up, in the third and fifth matches, respectively. The fifth pairing of Rebecca Carroll and Mark K O’Mahony held their lead and secured a 2&1 win.
With two points apiece, the decider came down to the middle match and Rockmount’s Janet Douds and Deirdre Russell approached the 18th one down but won the hole to force Newlands down extra tie holes. The Ulster pairing dug deep and secured victory in dramatic fashion on the 21st hole after Russell (pictured) holed the winning putt. Rockmount are crowned 2016 Revive Active National Champions.
