Tormorden Golf Club, West Yorkshire has welcomed in Irena Brown as their Club Captain, the first lady to take on the position in the club’s 121-year history.

Brown is no stranger to positions of office at the club, having twice been Lady Captain as well as holding a number of other committee positions within Todmorden’s small ladies section.

She has now taken on the role of Club Captain following Todmorden’s inaugural captain’s drive-in last month, alongside the club's new Lady Captain Cynthia Murray.

Thankful for a good and straight drive on the day, Brown says she has received nothing but support from the members at the club.

‘We are a small club with a good community spirit. I’m excited for the year ahead,’’ Brown commented.

A member of Todmordon Golf Club for nearly twenty years, Brown is following in the footsteps of her late husband who was Club Captain during the club’s centenary celebrations in 1995.

Brown captaincy is the latest in a growing list of women who are taking positions at the helm of their respective golf clubs. Earlier this year Royal Norwich Golf Club witnessed a full house of ladies inaugurated into office as women were appointed to all the club’s key positions.
