Four top Scottish links courses - Monifieth, Panmure, Montrose and Carnoustie Championship - welcomed an international field of 112 golfers last week for the Carnoustie Country Classic 2015.
Four top links courses - Monifieth, Panmure, Montrose and Carnoustie Championship - welcomed an international field of 112 golfers last week for the Carnoustie Country Classic 2015.
The Carnoustie Country Classic has been running for 11 years and is played on four of the 34 golf courses encompassed by Carnoustie Country, one of Scotland’s top golfing destinations.
The tournament, which was held from 10-14 May, was won by Jacob Pederson from Denmark.
“As well as being my first time at the Carnoustie Country Classic, this is my first visit to Scotland,” said Jacob. “I’m incredibly impressed by the stunning courses I’ve played on this week.”
The winner of the Senior Trophy was Pat Desmond from Island Golf Club in Dublin – and his wife, Azmina Desmond, clinched the Ladies title (pictured right with runner-up Margaret Tindale)
“We were here in 2013, when I was runner up in the Ladies tournament,” said Azmina. “We enjoyed it so much, we decided to enter the 2015 competition and with two wins to our credit, we’ll definitely be returning next year - to meet up with all the friends we’ve made while playing in this tournament and defend our titles!”
The competing golfers were from Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Sweden, Thailand, the UK and the USA.
“Playing in the Carnoustie Country Classic was an unbelievable experience,” said Mike Lohmueller from Cincinnati, Ohio, who has vowed to play in the Carnoustie Country Classic 2016.
“These golf courses are extremely challenging but they were absolutely worth the effort, especially Montrose, which is gorgeous. The views across the sea and the town, the yellow of the gorse, the 450 years of golfing heritage… What an experience!”
During their four days in Carnoustie Country, which covers golf courses in Angus, Dundee, north Fife and east Perthshire, many of the competitors also found time to explore the surrounding area, while also taking advantage of the social events on offer during the tournament, including a highly successful curry night and Scottish night.
