In order to be the best putter you can be it's important to ensure the dominant eye is over the ball within the set-up. Nicky Lawrenson shows who can you can ascertain your dominant eye.

Everyone has a dominant eye whereby the brain is taking more input from one eye than the other. There are two categories ofeye dominance:

Same side dominant - The higher percentage of people will tend to be same-side dominant, approx 70-80%. This is where the dominant eye is the same as the dominant hand.

Cross-dominant - A slightly smaller percentage will be cross dominant, approx 20-30%. Like myself, this is where the dominant eye is opposite to the dominant hand.

Make a circle with your thumb and index finger with both hands. Place both circles on top of each other and look at a small object in front of you with both eyes open. Close one eye and then the other. When you close one eye the object will remain in the circle, when you close the other it will jump out of view. Whichever eye keeps the object in view is your dominant eye. It is beneficial to ensure the dominant eye is over the ball within the set-up. If the ball is not positioned under your dominant eye, the line of the putt may appear distorted. For left eye dominant players the ball may be positioned more toward the hole than for a right eye dominant player.
