It would be great if the ball always landed on the fairway with a straightforward route to the green, but golf isn’t like that! Here are some tips on how to play a chip from a downhill lie.

  • On a downhill lie it’s important to angle your body with the slope and with your weight favouring the left side (for right-handed golfers).
  • Keep your body angled to the slope in the backswing while still maintaining your height and remain as still as possible on the through swing, ensuring you do not try to lift the ball with your hands.
  • By maintaining your angle of spine on the through swing, this will encourage the clubhead down and under the ball thus sending it up!
