A mesh-style trainer and a leather sneaker can both be golf-specific waterproof shoes. ECCO Street Vibe and New Balance 530 Golf show why appearance is only the starting point.
A trainer-shaped shoe may fit neatly into your everyday wardrobe, but the upper does not tell you everything about its suitability for golf. Before buying, look for the exact golf model, the retailer’s waterproof description and the outsole specification, then check the fit on your own feet.
These two examples have different upper constructions and are both sold by Surprizeshop as waterproof golf shoes. We have compared the listed specifications and selected images; this is not a test of waterproofing, comfort or grip.
ECCO Street Vibe: A Leather Upper

The ECCO Golf Street Vibe in Black is £119.99. Its leather upper and understated lacing give it a comparatively simple sneaker appearance, with a blue edge visible along the sole.
The retailer lists an ECCO-TEX waterproof membrane and an outsole inspired by ECCO’s E-DTS NET design. Those are more useful details to investigate than assuming that leather alone provides waterproof protection. The specification also includes a removable insole for an optional width adjustment; that does not mean every foot will find the fit suitable.
Try the shoe with your normal golf socks and check the heel, toe space and pressure across the widest part of your foot. If you remove the insole, reassess the fit rather than assuming the extra space solves it. The W&G catalogue listing shows the selected black model.
New Balance 530 Golf: Mesh And Overlays

The £124.99 New Balance Women’s 530 Golf Shoes in Navy have a mesh upper with synthetic overlays, white laces and a segmented midsole. Surprizeshop describes this golf model as waterproof and lists ABZORB cushioning.
The open-looking upper should not, by itself, lead you to dismiss that waterproof description. Equally, a listed cushioning system cannot tell us how comfortable you will find the shoe over a full round. Check the golf-specific product name carefully: these details should not be transferred to an ordinary New Balance 530 street trainer.
Use the exact navy retailer page and the W&G navy catalogue image when comparing colours. Look at the sole as well as the side profile, and ask the retailer about any waterproof guarantee and its conditions before buying.
Make The Fit Check Count
Walk in both shoes, check for heel movement and allow room for your toes. Neither a mesh appearance nor a smooth leather finish predicts how the shoe will perform on your course. Our earlier autumn footwear edit covers different models if you want a broader comparison.
Prices were checked in GBP on 23 October 2026, when both selected product pages offered Add to bag. Individual sizes were not all rechecked; confirm your size, current price and the retailer’s terms.
