A cool first tee does not always call for a full jacket. A gilet lets you add warmth around your body while keeping the sleeves of your favourite polo or midlayer free. These three options offer quite different looks: a soft neutral, a bright teal and a rich aubergine. Start with the colour you will wear most, then think about the layers you want underneath.

J.Lindeberg Holma Quilt Hybrid Vest — Brindle – £150
The Brindle colour is a useful starting point if your golf wardrobe is built around black, cream and navy. In the selected photograph, the vest is worn over a dark long-sleeved layer, showing how easily a neutral gilet can pull an outfit together. J.Lindeberg combines quilted insulated panels with stretch sides and a two-way zip. The regular fit is intended to sit over a midlayer; check the fit with the thickness of top you usually wear.
Röhnisch Light Padded Vest — Hydro – £114.95
Hydro brings a stronger colour accent to plain trousers and a cream knit. This is the choice for readers who want their outer layer to do more of the styling work. The recycled, down-like filling sits inside a quilted polyamide shell, with a full zip and two zipped pockets. The model photograph shows the vest worn open, a useful reminder that it can remain part of the outfit as the day warms up.
Island Green Quilted Padded Gilet — Aubergine – £49.95
At £49.95, the Island Green option is the lowest-priced piece in this selection. The aubergine shade looks particularly good against the white top and dark trousers in the photograph. Its combination of padding, quilting and stretch side panels gives it a fitted appearance without sleeves to layer up. The retailer lists sizes S to XL. If you tend to wear a thicker fleece underneath, use the size chart before choosing rather than assuming your usual polo size.
Before you choose
For the simplest outfit, keep your top and trousers plain and let the gilet provide the colour. A lighter base layer will give you more room to adjust than a bulky jumper. Before keeping any new gilet, try it zipped up over your intended layers and make a few slow practice swings: the shoulders, armholes and hem should feel comfortable throughout. These are editorial selections, not products we have tested on the course.
