The 18-year-old secures victory and a place in the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes.
Charlotte Naughton from Northumberland has secured the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship in Sweden, earning her place in this week’s AIG Women’s Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes.
Victory in Sweden
The 18-year-old, part of the England Women’s Squad, led from start to finish at Allerum Golfklubb. Her scores—69, 72, 67, and 72—resulted in a final total of eight under par, two shots clear of Swedish player Meja Örtengren. Naughton built her lead with early birdies in the final round and recovered from a late double bogey by closing with a birdie on the last hole.
I’m over the moon,” said Naughton. “I’ve put a lot of work in ahead of this event and I played so well.”
In her final round, the Longhirst Hall golfer pulled away with birdies at four and five, and kept her foot on the gas with a long birdie at the 10th. Entering the final two holes four shots clear of Örtengren, Naughton saw her lead halved after a double bogey on 17.
But with a par-5 to close out, she made birdie to clinch the title—on a hole where she was -5 across the four rounds.
“I didn’t have the best of starts, I was definitely nervous, but I managed to stay calm and that was my goal today,” added Naughton. “17 was a big mistake, but I tried to stay calm down the last. I’m really happy.”
A Track Record of Achievement
Naughton adds her name to a list of previous English champions, including Solheim Cup players such as Bronte Law and Alice Hewson. The European Ladies’ Amateur, first played in 1986, now counts five English winners.
Her win in Sweden is the latest highlight in a standout 18 months:
- 2025 German Girls’ International Amateur champion
- Lawson Trophy winner for best U18 player at the St Rule Trophy (2024–2026)
- 2025 World Junior Girls Golf Champion in Canada
- 2026 Junior Orange Bowl winner with a tournament record
