Long-time golfer Imrie Parker celebrates her milestone birthday with friends, family, and fellow players
Basingstoke Golf Club marked a very special occasion this autumn as one of its longest-serving members, Imrie Parker, celebrated her 100th birthday.
Parker, who has been part of the club since 1966, turned 100 on September 26 and celebrated with family, friends, and her fellow golfers. Still passionate about the game, she credits golf with keeping her active, healthy, and socially connected well into her later years.
A life shaped by golf
To mark the occasion, the ladies’ section at Basingstoke hosted a special afternoon tea, while a private family gathering also welcomed many club members. Earlier this year, Parker and her close friend Vera Newman—who will turn 102 in October—were both awarded honorary membership.
Parker has seen nearly six decades of change at Basingstoke, including the club’s relocation to its new site in the village of Dummer in 2021. The new par-72 course will be officially inaugurated in May 2026.
Family at the heart
Beyond golf, Parker is devoted to her large family, which spans four children, 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. She says the love of her family, hard work, and staying active are the keys to her long and fulfilling life.
Her milestone was also recognised nationally with a congratulatory card from King Charles III.
A role model for the golfing community
David Green, General Manager at Basingstoke Golf Club, said Parker embodies the spirit of the game:
“Imrie is an inspiration to all of us here at the club. Her passion for golf and her commitment to staying active and connected to her friends is a shining example of what our game is all about. To see her reach 100 and still enjoy being part of our community is truly special.”
Basingstoke Golf Club continues to grow as one of the region’s most notable courses, with its new site and layout already drawing attention and praise.
