Some clubs are quietly partnering with local hotels — and the deals are worth knowing about. A new partnership between Basingstoke Golf Club and Audleys Wood Hotel puts a redesigned Hampshire championship course firmly on the group trip map.
There’s an assumption baked into golf travel planning that you stay where you play. On-site lodges, resort packages, the whole thing wrapped up in one booking. It’s convenient, but it’s not always the best option — and it can quietly inflate the cost of a trip.
Basingstoke Golf Club and Audleys Wood Hotel, a Grade-II listed country house about ten minutes away, have just formalised something that should be more common: a reciprocal partnership that gives golfers real options.
Hotel guests get discounted green fees on the club’s redesigned downland course. Club members and visitors get preferential rates at the hotel, including 25% off afternoon tea and 15% off selected food and drink.
The stay-and-play packages start from £210 per person based on two sharing, covering a night’s bed and breakfast and dinner. A golf day experience without accommodation runs from £100 per person.
It’s a useful reminder that this kind of arrangement exists — and that it’s worth asking. Not every club advertises local hotel partnerships. Some have informal agreements. Some have nothing, but a conversation with the pro shop or office often turns up options the website doesn’t mention.

What to ask before you book
When you’re researching a golf trip — particularly for a group — it’s worth building this into your research:
- Does the club have preferred rates with any local hotels?
- Is there a stay-and-play package, and what does it actually include?
- What’s the minimum group size to qualify?
- Are there tee time restrictions attached to the package?
Most golf courses don’t have accommodation at all. A local hotel partnership solves that — and means the course you actually want to play doesn’t get ruled out because there’s nowhere obvious to stay.
