Mel and Carly Reid welcome their first child

LPGA Tour winner Mel Reid and her wife Carly have announced the birth of their son Kai William Reid. On Saturday 11th November, both Mel and Carly took to their social media channels to make the announcement.

English golf star Mel, wrote on her Instagram page:

"Already this little man has shown his mummy’s some of his strong character. The 8th Nov went from the best day of our lives to the worst in about 30 short minutes. Thank you for everyone at Baptist South Labor/ Delivery and NICU. And an even bigger thank you to Baptist downtown NICU for getting our baby boy healthy again. We will forever be indebted to you all. We are beyond grateful we can take our baby boy home finally 🥹💙. Thank you to everyone who reached out and sent so much love this way. We are so lucky to have all of you in our lives ❤️.

"A loud shout out to my incredible wife. The strength you have shown Kai is why you were born to be the best Mama. We love you beyond words 😘."

With more details shared on her Instagram page from what sounded like a reasonably traumatic birth experience:

"Poor buddy had a bit of a rough start and needed to make a pit stop in the NICU first. We went from the best moment of our lives to truly one of the scariest. He took a little extra time learning how to breathe on his own and needed his lungs cleaned up after a stressful delivery.

"I cannot say enough good things about the nurses and doctors at baptist south and eventually baptist downtown/wolfson’s children’s hospital where he got more specialized care. When you interact with the great ones, you start to wonder if that’s where the phrase “angels on earth” came from. thank you thank you thank you.

"We are so lucky to have experienced the absolute bliss of becoming parents, and even though that also came with immense fear and heartache when we couldn’t be with him, we’re still counting our blessings. maybe worrying is a privilege in a weird way—as I’m sure we’re in for a lifetime of that.

"Nov 8 will forever be our favorite day while simultaneously reminding us that life is truly a miracle. reflecting on the past week will probably always bring me and Mel to tears. It was one of those times that brought us even closer together. I picked the strongest, bravest, most gracious, gentle, and loving partner and I’m forever thankful me and Kai both have her.

"Kai blew everyone away with his quick progress. he is doing amazing and seemed to turn a corner as soon as we got to hold him in our arms again. he is a fighter. we could not possibly love him more. 💙

"To everyone who has been praying for us, cheering us on, texting us, reassuring us, facetiming us, sending food, we love you so much and will never forget your kindness."

Kai is the first child welcomed by Mel and Carly who were married on the 16th April 2022, at the Clay Theatre in Green Cove Springs, Florida.
