The British Speedgolf Pairs Championship takes speedgolf to another level with its electric Foursomes format. Teams of two play a single ball, alternating shots while running between them—no buggies, just sweat, strategy, and raw athleticism.

In the thrilling Foursome format, where teamwork reigns supreme, each pair navigated the course with a single ball, alternating shots amidst intense communication. Players run between shots as there is no use of buggies allowed. Armed with up to 7 clubs each, teams embarked on their quest for glory by scoring the lowest speedgolf score; which combines golf strokes with the time taken to complete the course

Competitors

Kathy Leppard and Bev Fentiman (team name Time for Tee)  showcased their talent to take the Women’s British Speedgolf Pairs title playing off the women’s blue tees (Par 73). They started with a dramatic run to the first tee and still had a little energy in the tank for the running finish after their final putt on the 18th. They completed the gruelling course, bathed in warm sunshine in just 66 minutes;  anyone who has played the Palmerston course at Brocket Hall will appreciate just how impressive this is.

The diverse field included women players from France (Valerie Texier and Nannick Bast) and Germany (Britta Uschkamp - played in a mixed pair).  This provides a rather unique spectacle in the women’s golf game as they compete alongside men and even a couple of junior teens in the same championship.

This historic estate was no walk in the park—rolling hills, technical holes, and a punishing 9K run pushed all pairs to their limits.

Defending mens champions

Farnham Golf Club’s Head Coach and PGA Pro Luke Bone is widely respected for coaching elite talent like Women’s Amateur champion Lottie Woad—but behind the scenes, he’s also a fierce competitor in this adrenaline-fueled format.

Speedgolf combines total golf strokes with the time taken to complete the course. Speedgolf demands a razor-sharp balance between precision and pace.

Bone once again teamed up with fellow PGA Pro Luke Willett under the team name, Sub 17. With grit, speed, and pinpoint golf, they tore through the Palmerston Course at Brocket Hall. And completed the demanding 18-hole, 9K course in just 43 minutes 49 seconds. They shot 83 for a combined Speedgolf Score of 126:49 in a successful defence of their overall championship title.

Excitement is already building for the British Speedgolf Solo Championship returning to Sunningdale Heath on 7 September 2025. With support from The R&A, the event promises to be one of the most thrilling chapters yet in this explosive sport. Women will play 18 holes for the Women’s British Speedgolf title (solo), but for the first time in the history of the sport, the top players, regardless of age or gender, will make the cut to play a 2nd round in the afternoon to contend for the main championship title.

What is Speedgolf?

Speedgolf combines the number of golf strokes with the time it takes to complete the round for a final Speedgolf score.

Golf accuracy is as important as an enhanced pace but finding the optimum pace to maximise golf performance is the key challenge but as with any great golf tournament, consistency is key.

Speedgolfers are set off at intervals, as they complete their round on foot, jogging between holes and saving time by eliminating time-consuming practice swings and other rituals associated with golf.

Participants also carry fewer clubs, but often this means they have to be more creative with their shots. The British Speedgolf website provides a wealth of information and imagery about the sport.
