Understand the difference A chip is a low, running shot that spends more time on the ground, while a pitch is a higher, lofted shot that carries more of the distance in the air.
Chip setup cues Stand closer to the ball, lean your weight and the shaft towards the target, and use an up-and-down stroke to bump the ball along the ground and up the slope.
Pitch setup cues Position the ball in the middle of your stance at a normal distance from the ball, and focus on using the sole of the club to get loft — but be aware this shot carries greater risk of a mis-hit.
