Women & Golf review the Abacus Lds Bounce Waterproof Hoodie

What Abacus Say...

The Abacus Bounce waterproof hoodie in white is made of a 4-way stretch waterproof fabric that is also highly breathable. All seams are taped with soft and flexible tape. The water repellent treatment on the material is PFC-free. The material is 3-layer with same soft and stretchable fabric outside as inside with a functional membrane bonded between layers. This membrane keeps the rain out and allows moisture generated by the body to be transported to the surface of the garment where it evaporates, keeping you dry on the inside as well on the outside. There is no lining in this hoodie because of the soft inside and this results in a very comfortable feeling when playing. Hood is adjustable at front. Two front pockets and raglan sleeves. Abacus logo at top hood, front shoulder and along right hand sleeve.

Initial Thoughts on the Hoodie

Abacus Lds Bounce Waterproof Hoodie - front

On receipt of the hoodie my first impressions were - how soon before I get this dirty? & will it keep me dry? But seriously, its a nice item, easy to fold, lightweight, extremely soft and tactile with just a single layer of material.

The Hoodie Test

So far I have only used the hoodie once, in weather I would describe as drizzle. As soon as I manage to play in a downpour I will update the review.

The morning was cold so I had 2 underlayers and a fleece underneath. This is an XL and I normally wear a size 16 but there was plenty of room. The material is stretchy too, so when swinging a golf club you do not feel constricted.

The hood itself is roomy so I could pull it over the top of my beanie. There is a drawstring to tighten the hood up if needed.

There are two invisible but very large pockets in the hoodie which are accessed either side.

The Water/ Windproof Test

Abacus Lds Bounce Waterproof Hoodie - back

With a waterproof rating of 6000-10000 mm (some resistance) the hoodie should be able to deal comfortably with light rain, showers, and snow in colder conditions but unable to stand up to heavy rain for prolonged periods.

The hoodie is also windproof and I felt well protected during my round.

All seams are sealed with a soft and flexible tape.

Care: washable at 30 degrees but do not use fabric conditioner.

We like...

Lightweight

Breathable material

4-way Stretchy

Substantial hood

Nice material

We dislike...

Not sure white is practical - navy blue would be better for winter

Pockets - great size but I felt they were not too accessible and I was hunting around for my tees.

Final Score

We would say this hoodie is on the more expensive part of the pricing scale but the design and material are worth it.

It is quite clear, when you wear it, that a lot of time and effort has been put in to the design, the choice of the material and the construction of the garment.

Size wise – I am a size 16 and chose an XL which was more than sufficient with layers underneath.

As mentioned to date I have only worn in drizzle and will update the review once I've worn it in a torrential downpour.
