Abacus has signed apparel agreements with two of Europe’s most successful female golfers, Catriona Matthew and The 2015 European Solheim Cup Captain, Carin Koch as new abacus ambassadors.
Official Suppliers to The European Solheim Cup Team, abacus has signed apparel agreements with two of Europe’s most successful female golfers, Catriona Matthew and The 2015 European Solheim Cup Captain, Carin Koch.
There is considerable synergy between the two golfers, as Koch and Matthew are both multiple winners on the LET and LPGA Tours, each having represented Europe in The Solheim Cup on numerous occasions and holed the winning putt to claim victory. In addition, the pair have previous experience of working with the Swedish clothing pioneer that first brought stretch water-proof fabrics to the market in the early 90s.
Koch played in four successive Solheim Cup matches between 2000 and 2005, earning 11½ points with a 10-3-3 win-loss-draw record and was instrumental in Europe’s 2000 victory, making the winning putt at Loch Lomond in Scotland. She was also a member of the victorious team that won at Barsebäck G&CC on her home soil in Sweden in 2003 and was Vice Captain as Europe claimed victory in 2013, at Colorado Golf Club, USA.
Commenting on her appointment, Carin Koch said: “Abacus Sportswear makes great clothes that look good both on and off the course. The brand’s attention to detail and in-depth knowledge and understanding it has of the specific requirements players have for their apparel has definitely been a key factor in my decision to work with the company.
“As the team captain for this year’s Solheim Cup in Germany, I have been working alongside abacus to organise the outfits and I continue to be impressed by the high level of professionalism and the outstanding quality of the clothing. I am really excited to be a part of the team and I look forward to developing our relationship over the coming years.”
As one of Scotland’s best ever golfers, Catriona Matthew has made golfing history throughout her illustrious career. As the only female Scot to win a major, with her victory at the 2009 Ricoh Women’s British Open, Matthew has also helped make Solheim Cup history in 2013 in Colorado, as she holed the putt to secure the half point Europe needed to win the competition on American soil for the first time.
Catriona Matthew commented: “I am thrilled to be re-joining the abacus team as one of its newest ambassadors. I have a long affinity with the brand and have always loved the fit and quality of the apparel. The constant aim to strive for technical excellence of its apparel range mirrors the work I put into my game, which was one of the fundamental reasons behind my decision to sign with the company. I look forward to representing abacus, as I continue my pursuit of excellence on the global golfing stage.”
Carin Koch and Catriona Matthew join other abacus golf ambassadors including; former European Number One Robert Karlsson, triumphant 2013 Solheim Cup Captain Liselotte Neumann and two-time European Tour Champion Steen Tinning.
Emma Westerberg, Head of Marketing at Abacus Sportswear, said: “To add two world-famous professional golfers to our esteemed roster of brand ambassadors is fantastic. Both Carin and Catriona have enjoyed hugely successful careers and continue to be among the most popular players on tour, sharing a joint passion for the game. Their commitment to golf makes them a great fit for us and we look forward to these exciting partnerships.”
