Ball position and weight forward
Place the ball just behind centre in your stance and keep around 70% of your weight on your lead leg throughout the shot — this promotes consistent contact and naturally removes excess wrist movement.
Think pendulum, not flick
Use your torso and arms together in a putting-like swing, keeping the club head low to the ground both back and through — if your wrists are taking over, practise the motion without a club first to feel the correct arm-and-shoulder movement.
Match the club to the shot
Lower-lofted clubs like a 9-iron or 50° wedge are ideal when you need the ball to roll out, while a higher-lofted wedge suits situations where you need more carry — experiment with different clubs around the green to build feel for each.
