Keep your weight and chest forward
With roughly 70% of your weight on your lead side at impact, your chest stays ahead of the ball and the bottom of your swing arc shifts forward — making ball-first contact far more likely.
Use a sidearm, stone-skimming release
Instead of throwing the trail arm downward (which drops the low point early), keep the trail shoulder low and release the club on an arc around the corner, as if skimming a stone along a pond.
Position the ball in the centre of your stance
Keeping the ball no further forward than your lead shoulder — and ideally in the centre of your stance — gives you the best chance of catching it before the club reaches its lowest point.
