Deirdre O’Sullivan’s side beat Knock 3.5-1.5 at Shandon Park to win a third consecutive AIG Women’s Senior Cup, their first treble since 1987.
Douglas have won the AIG Women’s Senior Cup for a third year running, beating Knock 3.5-1.5 in a rain-soaked final at Shandon Park.
It is only the second time in the club’s history that Douglas have won three titles in a row, and their first three-in-a-row since 1987. Only County Louth have won four consecutive titles, doing so between 1946 and 1949.
Clodagh Coughlan, Aoife Ni Thuama, Shannon Burke and Karen O’Neill were all part of the side when the run began in 2024, and each played a role again this year. Claudia O’Donoghue, who won the deciding point in last year’s final, did so again in this one.
A tight route to the final
Douglas beat Royal Portrush in Friday’s quarter-final, with Ni Thuama winning her match on the 22nd hole. That set up a semi-final against Lahinch, a repeat of the 2025 final, which again went to a playoff before Ni Thuama came through on the 20th.
Knock, a young side who had beaten Royal Tara and Galway to reach the final, then met a Douglas team looking to close out the third title. Burke won 7&6 against Caitlin Ross, and Coughlan followed with a 6&4 win to put Douglas on the verge. O’Donoghue sealed the match with a 5&4 win over Annie Armstrong.
Captain O’Sullivan described the win as: “Stunned, delighted, proud. It’s a great day for Douglas. Our Barton Shield team won during the week and today these girls are bringing home the three in a row. We’re in a good space in Douglas, we have experience, but we also have youth coming through so hopefully the future is very bright.”
