Malbon and J.Lindeberg have both released new pieces in wine ready for the cooler autumns days. It isn’t a joint capsule or a golf-specific trend — it’s the same colour that’s been building on the high street for a couple of seasons now.
Wine is showing up across golf clothing this season, and it isn’t down to any coordination between brands. Malbon and J.Lindeberg have each put out new pieces in the colour independently, and the timing lines up with where fashion generally has been heading for a couple of years.
If you’ve noticed more burgundy on the high street recently, golf clothing catching up with it this season is part of the same pattern rather than a trend of its own.
Wine Beyond Golf
Burgundy — also sold as wine, oxblood or merlot depending on the retailer — has been a fixture of autumn/winter collections since around 2024 and shows no sign of dropping off. Retailers including ASOS have described it as closer to a wardrobe staple than a passing trend.
The colour’s popularity outside golf is worth knowing, because it means the Malbon and J.Lindeberg pieces below sit within a wider seasonal shift rather than a one-off.
J.Lindeberg’s Wine Pieces
The Flor LS Polo is a long-sleeve, slim-fit polo in a plain wine colourway. It’s made from a polyester-modal blend with added stretch, and is designed to wick moisture and hold its shape at the collar and placket over a round.
The Tour Tech Print Polo, in the Bunker Fade Winetasting Moon colourway, is a short-sleeve polo with an all-over marbled print in wine and cream. It’s a four-way stretch fabric in a regular fit.
The Phoebe Jacquard Knit Vest is a sleeveless knit vest in a wool and recycled nylon blend, with an all-over jacquard pattern and ribbed trim at the collar, armholes and hem. It’s a heavier knit, intended as a layering piece rather than worn on its own.
Malbon’s Wine Pieces
The Clara Dress is a knit polo dress in a cotton-viscose blend, mid-thigh length, with a pattern running through the fabric. Malbon positions it as suited to both casual wear and more dressed-up settings.
The Laurell Skirt is a pleated, pull-on skirt with a structured, high-waisted band and built-in inner shorts, including a pocket for a ball. Both the outer skirt and the inner shorts have stretch.
Neither brand has framed these as a wine-themed collection — the colour is simply where both ranges landed this season, in among the usual black, navy and khaki. Worth knowing if you’re planning an autumn/winter wardrobe update and want a colour that’s likely to keep turning up beyond this one season.
W&G VERDICT
Wine is one of the more reliable colour calls of the season, and the fact it’s turned up in both Malbon’s and J.Lindeberg’s ranges independently says more about where fashion is heading generally than about either brand.
The shade isn’t identical between the two — J.Lindeberg’s runs closer to plum, Malbon’s a touch warmer and redder — so treat them as separate options rather than a matched pair. The Flor Polo and the Laurell Skirt are the simplest way in, since neither carries a print.
