Charley Hull launches her new YouTube channel with a front-nine practice round at Royal Lytham & St Annes ahead of the AIG Women’s Open

Charley Hull has launched her own YouTube channel, The Sweet Spot, and she couldn’t have picked a better week to debut it.

In the first episode, Hull takes her camera out onto the front nine at Royal Lytham & St Annes, this year’s host for the AIG Women’s Open, which tees off on Thursday for its landmark 50th staging.

Rather than a slick, scripted walk-through, it’s a proper practice round: Hull is joined on the bag by her best friend of 20 years, Ryan Evans, who’s been given caddying duties back after a mix-up cost him the job at a previous tournament.

What follows is part course-management masterclass, part old-friends bickering session, as the pair work their way from the tee, club by club, bunker by bunker, up the tricky Lytham links.

Hull talks the viewer through exactly how she reads a links course under pressure. The shot shapes, the wind calls, the club selections she and Evans go back and forth while sharing plenty about her preparation, her routine, and her mindset heading into a major.

On her love of competing: “I feel like I just thrive off it. Like that feeling of being under pressure… I actually thrive off that under pressure. It’s like a fight or flight feeling. I just love it.”

On the criticism her golf swing sometimes attracts, and working around a back injury: “Everyone’s going to have an opinion, and I couldn’t care less about their opinions … you’ve got to adapt to the player.”

And on the double act with Evans, who between wayward club advice and a few lost divots comes in for some good-natured stick throughout:

“If anyone’s looking for a job, I’m available. Caddy … he just doesn’t put divots back and he gives wrong clubs. Apart from that, he’s great.”

It’s a warm, funny, and surprisingly candid watch and with Lytham about to take centre stage, there’s no better time to see the course through Hull’s eyes before the world’s best players tee it up for real.
