A 2.5 metre-wide golf ball has landed in Amsterdam Centraal to mark 100 days until the Solheim Cup returns to Europe at Bernardus Golf.
The stunt in one of Europe’s busiest stations is designed to show travelling fans just how close Bernardus Golf really is, ahead of September’s tournament.
Fans visiting the station could take on a long putt challenge and spin a prize wheel for tickets to the Solheim Cup and PING Junior Solheim Cup, along with merchandise and prizes from PING, adidas and TUMI.
Getting to Bernardus
The Netherlands hosts the biennial match-play contest between Europe and the United States at Bernardus Golf in Cromvoirt, an hour from Amsterdam, from 11-13 September. Fans can reach nearby Den Bosch by train in under 50 minutes, with complimentary shuttle buses on to the course, or cycle the 9km route on bikes provided free with entry tickets.
The event caps a big summer of golf in the Netherlands, following the KLM Open this week and the Dutch Ladies Open.
Europe captain Anna Nordqvist said the Amsterdam stunt “really brings home how close we are now” to the Cup, adding that the team is “getting more excited by the day.”
Korda first to qualify
Nelly Korda has become the first player to secure her place on the US team, topping the points standings after three LPGA Tour titles already this season, including her third major win at the Chevron Championship. It will be her fifth Solheim Cup appearance; her record stands at 10 wins, 5 losses and a draw.
“Getting to represent my country is always such a huge honour,” Korda said. “I’ve always made amazing memories playing in the Solheim Cup, and I can’t wait for more.”
Tickets are on sale now at Solheim Cup Tickets.
