Ball position and stance distance
Place the ball just left of centre in your stance — not as far forward as you would with a driver — and let your hands hang naturally beneath your chin to find the right distance from the ball.
Keep your sternum over the ball
Swinging too hard causes your sternum to drift away from the ball, leading to a sway and inconsistent contact; instead, focus on a point at the back of the ball to keep your body rotating as one unit.
Sweep through the low point
Fairway woods are designed to glide along the ground, so focus on making ball-first contact with a low, sweeping motion — place a tee just ahead of the ball and aim to sweep it away after impact to practise this feeling.
