A strong international field, rising Scottish stars, and a classic venue set the stage for the 2025 edition
The 2025 ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open tees off July 24–27 at Dundonald Links, marking the tournament’s fourth consecutive year at the Ayrshire venue. Co-sanctioned by the LPGA and Ladies European Tour, this 72-hole stroke play competition features a 144-player field, with a cut to the top 65 and ties after two rounds. The purse stands at $2 million.
Dundonald, a modern links designed by Kyle Phillips, blends traditional elements with five-star facilities. Just 24 miles south of Glasgow and surrounded by famed courses like Royal Troon and Prestwick, it offers both history and high-caliber golf.
Spotlight on Homegrown Talent
Among the most anticipated storylines is the professional debut of 21-year-old Hannah Darling. The Scot, ranked No. 20 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, brings an impressive résumé that includes three Curtis Cup appearances and a Junior Solheim Cup berth. Darling will play on home soil thanks to one of four sponsor invitations.
“This is the moment I’ve been working towards,” said Darling. “Starting my professional career in Scotland at such a great venue is truly special.”
Joining her in representing Scotland are fellow invitees Lorna McClymont and Kylie Henry. McClymont, 24, is enjoying a solid rookie season on the LET and recently posted a top-10 finish at the Tenerife Women’s Open. Henry, a two-time LET winner, is making her 14th start in the event.
Thailand’s Pannarat Thanapolboonyaras, who competes primarily on the JLPGA Tour, rounds out the sponsor invites.
A Field Packed with Proven Winners
This year’s lineup includes a mix of past champions, major winners, Solheim Cup veterans, and rising stars:
- Former winners like Lauren Coughlin, Ayaka Furue, Ariya Jutanugarn, and Mi Hyang Lee return to familiar turf.
- 2025 LET champions include Grace Kim, Hyo Joo Kim, and Celine Boutier, among others.
- Scottish players in the field include Darling, McClymont, Henry, Kelsey Macdonald, and Gemma Dryburgh.
In total, 11 LET winners from this season, 7 rookies, and 5 players from the host country will compete, promising a diverse and competitive field.
A Venue Designed for Drama
Dundonald Links, stretching just over 6,500 yards, offers a classic Scottish links challenge. Wind is always a factor, and the course’s deep bunkering and fescue-lined fairways demand creativity and precision. Standout holes include:
- Par-5 5th: A risk-reward hole where strategy can pay off big.
- Par-4 13th: Requires accuracy from tee to green.
- Par-5 18th: A potential finale full of peril and possibility.
Originally opened in 2003 and reimagined in recent years, the venue has fast become a favorite among players and fans alike.
