This October, as part of Gynae Cancer Awareness Month, golfers are being invited to combine their love of the game with a cause that could save lives.
UK charity Ovarian Cancer Action is asking women—and their golfing friends—to take on the “Walk 100 Miles in October” challenge, with a golf-themed twist: why not clock up those miles on the fairways?
Golfers already know how many steps it takes to get around 18 holes. By keeping track of rounds walked throughout the month, players could hit the 100-mile target while doing what they enjoy most. Whether it’s weekly medals, friendly fourballs, or solo practice rounds, every step on the course can be part of the challenge.
Why it matters
Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed late because symptoms can be mistaken for other conditions. The charity is highlighting the five key symptoms: persistent bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, feeling full quickly, difficulty eating, and changes in urinary habits.
To help women monitor their health more easily, Ovarian Cancer Action has also launched a free symptoms tracker, designed to spot patterns that may need medical attention.
How to take part
Those who sign up for the challenge receive a free t-shirt, with an exclusive medal for anyone who raises £200 or more. By sharing social media posts, tracking symptoms, or fundraising through golf, players can help support vital research while spreading life-saving awareness.
