A short film narrated by James Nesbitt captures the spirit of a town where golf and community are deeply entwined
A Tribute to Golf, Community, and the Northern Irish Coast
Callaway Golf Europe has released CHARM, a short film celebrating the coastal town of Portrush, its people, and their enduring connection to the game of golf. Narrated by local actor James Nesbitt, the film explores the character of the town and the emotional ties between its daily life and the famous links at Royal Portrush.
Shot on location, the film follows the rhythm of this seaside community as it prepares to host the British Major once again. Viewers are introduced to familiar faces from the town — including Matt McAlpin of the Harbour Bar and greenkeepers working behind the scenes — offering a candid look at the lives touched by the game.
Local Voices and Global Talent
While rooted in Portrush, CHARM also includes nods to the broader golfing world. Defending Open Champion Xander Schauffele appears, and the film shares a lighthearted moment with Nesbitt holding a photo of fellow Northern Irishman Jamie Dornan, hinting at their shared affection for Royal Portrush and the local pub culture.
Chris Gregg, Marketing Director at Callaway Golf Europe, described the film as “a story that’s both local and universal,” highlighting the inseparable connection between the town, the links, and the sea.
Spotlight on the July Major Tour Bag
Coinciding with the film’s release, Callaway has unveiled its Limited Edition July Major Tour Bag. The design draws inspiration from Portrush itself, featuring Dunluce Castle set against a turquoise sea and sky. Details like orange life ring-style zips and rope netting pay homage to the town’s maritime character. The bag will be used by Callaway’s professional players throughout the British Major.
