Upgrades focus on sustainability and course quality as part of continued investment at PGA Aroeira Lisboa
PGA Aroeira No.2, one of Portugal’s most recognizable golf courses, is undergoing a major renovation this summer to mark its 25th anniversary. Located near Lisbon and recently rebranded as PGA Aroeira Lisboa, the course is receiving a series of upgrades focused on sustainability and improving the overall playing experience.
Continued Investment in a Historic Setting
The renovation of Aroeira No.2 follows a significant overhaul of its sister course, PGA Aroeira No.1, completed earlier in 2024. Both courses form part of the 36-hole complex managed by Details – Hospitality, Sports, Leisure, which took over operations at the end of 2023.
Originally designed by renowned architect Donald Steel and previously known as Aroeira Challenge, Aroeira No.2 will see upgrades to tee boxes, bunkers, fairways, greens, and landscaping. The resort is also enhancing pathways and bridges across the layout, while preserving the course’s original routing and character.
A Sustainability-Focused Vision
Central to the renovation is a strong emphasis on sustainability. As with the No.1 course, Aroeira No.2 will feature drought-resistant Bermuda grass and a modern irrigation system aimed at significantly reducing water use across the property.
“We’ve always planned to follow the successful renovation of Aroeira No.1 with similar work on Aroeira No.2,” said Nuno Sepulveda, co-CEO of Details. “Our team is committed to enhancing the entire guest experience while staying true to the spirit of Donald Steel’s original design.”
Looking Ahead to Autumn Reopening
Renovation work is already underway, with the updated Aroeira No.2 expected to reopen in autumn 2025. The improvements are part of a broader strategy to position PGA Aroeira Lisboa as one of the leading golf destinations in southern Europe.
The resort, owned by Arrow Global, remains the only PGA National-branded facility in Portugal.
