If you're looking for a venue for a few days in Cornwall with the girls then The Point at Polzeath might just be the answer...

Set within an area of outstanding natural beauty, just minutes from some of Cornwall’s best golf courses, beaches, and restaurants there is something for everyone when visiting The Point.

The Point is an ideal base for group or family golf holidays: near the coast whilst benefitting from a quieter pace.

Properties benefit from easy access to the 18-hole golf course, bar, restaurant, and Health Club featuring an indoor pool, sauna, jacuzzi and gym.

The Point Holidays have a selection of properties ranging from one-bedroom apartments to 6-bedroom holiday cottages and everything in between. Their accommodation is located both onsite (just a short stroll from Polzeath beach) and in the nearby villages of Rock, Polzeath and Daymer Bay.

Accommodation

We stayed in Sole, one of The Point apartments, located onsite. The spacious accommodation is set on two floors both with amazing views across the golf course and towards the bay at Pentire Point.

The two bedrooms (one ensuite) and bathrooms are on the lower level. We can't emphasize enough the amount of space. The double glazing is amazing and you would not know how windy it was when we stayed. Cleanliness is paramount for The Point and the linen and towels abundant.

The open plan living space incorporates lounge, dining room, cloakroom and kitchen on the upper level. There is underfloor heating and a sense of quiet and calm throughout.

Lounge
Spacious kitchen
All mod cons in the kitchen

Fully equipped with tv, sound system, games, and for those nippy evenings a wood burner, it's home away from home. There are some lovely touches including a welcome basket with coffee pods (yes, there's a nespresso machine), tea, sugar and Cornish fudge and some great books featuring local artists and photographers.

As golfers, we also appreciated the drying room on the lower level and a washing machine. Outside the front door, there is also a storeroom for golf bags and trolleys.

Golf

The Golf Course, The Point at Polzeath

From the apartment, it was a short walk to the Clubhouse and the 1st tee. The course is a real challenge for golfers of all standards and plays just short of 6300 yards off the back tees. As a result of investment, the greens are now considered to be among the best in the county and the presentation of the course is hard to fault. Most holes have seen significant changes with improvements to fairway definition, bunkers, tees, and greens. The terrain is pretty undulating so would recommend a buggy for those struggling with hills (there are 12 buggies to hire).

Golf Office Opening Hours are seasonal and published online. Tee times must be booked in advance online or over the phone (01208 863000) or via your booking. The Driving Range, which is a short walk from the Clubhouse, is open all office hours, except where a 1-hour range pick up is done. There is a 4-bay covered driving range and a further 6 outdoor tees. Tokens can be purchased from the office. There is also a practice putting green and a chipping area.

The Point welcomes visitors and societies, and they have a thriving membership base benefitting from flexible membership options.

Point of interest: DOGS WELCOME! Well behaved dogs are welcome on the course and in the restaurant in the day time.

Food

Both the restaurant and Bear Bar enjoy beautiful views of Polzeath and the sea beyond. They are open to all and on entering you are struck by the warm welcome and informal nature of the place. They pride themselves on using the freshest local ingredients, as well as local beers, ales, and wines to help wash it all down.

Lodge guests can choose to self-cater, order from the casual dining menu or, dine in the restaurant or more informal golf clubhouse and terrace. A takeaway food service from the bar is available in the high season and free food delivery is also available on site. There’s something for everyone.

Health Club

The Point Health Club offers; a state-of-the-art gym, spinning room, studio, indoor pool, sauna, and steam room. Unfortunately, the swimming pool was undergoing some refurbishment when we visited but this and the sauna & jacuzzi would be an ideal place to relax after a game of golf.

We know many golfers also play tennis and The Point does not disappoint. They are currently moving the tennis courts to a new location on the other side of the Clubhouse and installing padel tennis courts on the current tennis courts.

The verdict

Great golfing and spa facilities, fantastic accommodation, excellent food, and staff who happily tend to your every need.

The Point sits just above the Camel Estuary 5 miles from Wadebridge and a mile from Rock and St Enodoc.

Perfect as a base for golf - we can highly recommend  St Enodoc Golf Course only 2 miles away and  Trevose Golf and Country Club a 30-minute drive away, both wonderful Championship Links courses. The Point is more than happy to facilitate a tee time for their resident guests.

Note: We played in the Atlantic Pairs - a 2-day event played at St Enodoc and Trevose. Highly recommend. Great courses and spectacular views. A real test of your golfing ability. Take a deep breath before you tee off on the 10th at St Enodoc!

Perfect as a base for a foodies - take a trip to Prawn on the Lawn and Rick Stein in Padstow, or Outlaws at Port Isaac when you visit.

It’s a ‘yes’ from the team at Women & Golf!
