New train journeys blend sport, culture, and landscape through curated stops at Italy’s top golf destinations
Coinciding with the 2025 Italian Open, La Dolce Vita Orient Express is introducing a new series of itineraries tailored to golfers. Developed in partnership with the Italian Golf Federation, these rail-based journeys are designed to highlight Italy’s emerging role as a destination for high-end golf tourism, combining access to acclaimed courses with an emphasis on cultural and regional discovery.
Golf Meets Rail Travel
The project aims to bring together two traditions—golf and rail travel—through a slow-paced, immersive experience. Guests will travel aboard the La Dolce Vita Orient Express train and be joined by a professional golfer throughout the journey. At each stop, travelers will have access to golf clinics, regionally inspired cuisine, and a mix of leisure and play.
The initiative was announced in conjunction with the Italian Open, where La Dolce Vita Orient Express is an official partner. As part of the partnership, a special prize will be awarded during the tournament: a two-night rail journey and a stay at the new Orient Express La Minerva Hotel in Rome, offered to the first player to make a hole-in-one.
Two Seasonal Routes
The first itinerary, Northern Greens, will depart in October 2025 and begin at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, host of the 2023 Ryder Cup. From there, travelers will continue to Franciacorta Golf Club, Royal Park I Roveri, Antognolla Golf Club, and Terme di Saturnia Natural SPA & Golf Resort. Each destination combines competitive golf with distinct regional character.
A second itinerary, Italian Swing, will follow in November and explore courses in central and southern Italy, including San Domenico Golf Club in Puglia, The Club at Castiglion del Bosco in Tuscany, and Argentario Golf Club, currently Italy’s only PGA-licensed course.
Focus on Sustainability and Regional Identity
Organized in collaboration with Infront, the Italian Golf Federation’s official advisor, the program reflects a broader move toward sustainable, experience-driven tourism. Each leg of the journey incorporates locally rooted elements—from food and wine to technical golf instruction—offering a slower, more place-based alternative to traditional sports travel.
