Welcome to our brand new series of Pilates classes specifically for golfers. Linda Segerstam is here to take you through weekly Pilates exercises that will benefit you and your golf.
In this week 10 video, Linda is working through an all-level class that focuses on lengthening the spine, stretching out the whole body and working on stability. Starting on your back, you will need a small cushion or small soft gym ball, you will work through an exercise to lengthen out the spine, then you will move into a full-body stretch. A hip bridge exercise and leg stretches follow.
For the second half of the class you will be on your knees working through stability and glute exercises. Finishing off with some stretching.
This class is suitable for all ability levels and Linda explains modifications that can be made along the way. As mentioned, you will need a small cushion or small soft gym ball for this class.
Why is Pilates so important for golf?
“Golfers don’t always see the connection between Pilates exercises and their golf swing. At first glance, my Golf Pilates programme may seem like any other regular Pilates class. But with my understanding of both golf and Pilates, I am super focused on specific movements to help you golf better.” Find out how you can have your best golf year yet by following a Pilates programme.
If you visit The Intelligent Core website Linda explains that Pilates has many benefits including helping to improve posture and reduce the risk of injury, as well as improve your performance.
Pilates breathing stretches the small muscles between the ribs. This is perfect for golfers as we have the least flexibility in this area of the spine, stretching them increases a golfer’s ability to rotate.
