The golf world has come together to support the children on Ukraine with the #GolfersForUkraine fundraising appeal
Golf organisations across the world have united to help children in Ukraine by setting up #GolfersForUkraine. Initially initiated by some of the largest organisations in golf – The R&A, USGA, PGA, DP World Tour, LET, LPGA, PGA Tour, Sunshine Tour, PGA Superstore, Trackman and American Golf Industry Coalition – earlier this week.
The global golf community is being encouraged to stand in solidarity with Ukraine and donate to UNICEF’s work in the ongoing conflict. Launched on Tuesday, the total donations already stand at over $550,000.
A statement on the #GolfersForUkraine website states:
“The world of golf is one of the most resourceful sports in the world. With this comes a large responsibility. When we stand together we can impact the world much more than when we stand alone. In this case to raise as many funds as possible for children in Ukraine.”
A united golf community
Ahead of The Players Championship, PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan said:
“Our hearts go out to the people of Ukraine and those caught in the crosshairs of the conflict. We hope for an end to this senseless violence and a peaceful resolution. The game of golf has a way of rallying around important causes and this is one.”
With the Ladies European Tour adding: “We are truly saddened by what is happening, and we are united with communities around the world in the hope this situation can be resolved quickly.
“Like many others, we want to help, so along with other golfing organisations we are offering our support by donating to UNICEF’s work to deliver urgently needed supplies.”
The support goes beyond organisations to all golfers, with an ability to make a donation, no matter how small, regardless of the country you live in.
World number one, John Rahm, also voiced his support: “It's hard to see, honestly. It's really sad. Those people in Ukraine right now need help because through no fault of their own they're going through what they're going through.”
Donations made through golfersforukraine.com will help UNICEF to bring lifesaving help and hope to children and families.
About UNICEF's work in Ukraine
The #GolfersForUkraine website states that:
UNICEF is on the ground in Ukraine, bringing lifesaving help and hope to children and families.
UNICEF is trucking safe water to conflict-affected areas and prepositioning health, hygiene and emergency supplies as close as possible to families near the contact line. In addition, UNICEF is supporting mobile child protection teams providing psychosocial care to traumatized children and children separated from family.
In neighbouring countries, UNICEF is setting up safe spaces called 'Blue Dots' for children and families on the move, to provide key information to traveling families, safe spaces for mothers and children, and the ability to identify unaccompanied and separated children and ensure their protection.
As well as the #GolfersForUkraine, Women’s Golf Day are holding an auction to support the efforts of the Ukrainian Golf Federation. You can find all the details on how you can support here.
